Munchkin and I recently stayed at the 876 Riviera which is a very chic Airbnb in Montego Bay Jamaica. It catered to all our needs, which were quite a few, and managed to leave us feeling like we’d book it again and again.

That’s saying a lot. It scored pretty high marks when it comes to budget travel for a mom and daughter on the go. We were invited to stay at the apartment to review it for this post and yes, I would spend the $70ish dollars per night for this place.

The Bedroom inside this chic airbnb in Montego Bay

We chose to stay in Montego Bay because of its proximity to Negril, about an hour away, and its proximity to Ocho Rios, about an hour in the other direction.

This allowed us to sightsee in the three main tourist towns of the island and check off some of our summer to-do list.

This apartment has a pool on property which is a must-have for me when traveling with munchkin. It allows us to have down days where we simply stay home, rest and recharge with take-out. I get to do some work, the munchkin is still having fun playing in the pool. Win-win when traveling with kids

What Made This AirBnb in Montego Bay so Chic

I loved the full kitchen that the place offers. It was well stocked with coffee for me, tea for the munchkin plus pots and pan to prepare breakfast in-house. I try to have breakfast at my accommodation and sometimes dinner, saving lunch for food adventures on the road.

It was also well decked out with tech which wooed little munchkin’s heart. Alexa got quite a workout when we were there. So did Netflix and the Amazon Fire Stick.

The door was also keypad operated which was very convenient when we had friends over to enjoy the pool with us. I gave them the code to enter whenever they needed to use the restroom or grab something from inside.

The decor was very lovely, leaving nothing untouched. I loved the branded notepad and the well put together guestbook with all the information on the apartment, getting around and nearby attractions. There was even a loaded cellphone on the nightstand so we could make a call for food delivery or a cab if we needed to. These personal touches were very handy.

Proximity to Montego Bay Conveniences

This Airbnb in Montego Bay was a quick 5 minute drive just outside of the new Fairview Shopping Center which was super convenient. The Shopping Center ha a movie theatre, several chain restaurants like KFC, Subway and Wendy’s, local restaurants, coffee shops, a supermarket, a Cambio to change out cash and lots more little stores.

The traffic inside the town of Montego Bay can be ridiculous and so being just outside of that craziness was a huge plus. We were minutes off the main thoroughfare which means we skipped traffic to head out on our excursions.

The property is secured and you’ll get a remote to open the gate to come and go. The groundsman is out by the gate during daytime hours and he’s a quick call away should you need him at night. We checked in around 9pm after a day out in Negril so this was very helpful as he buzzed us in when we got there and helped us to take out bags inside.

Games Day In

Inside the walk-in closet we found a beach bag and fold-up lounge chair to take with you should you head to the beach or some outdoor event. This was a nice touch as you may not have these things with you if you came down to Montego Bay for Reggae Sumfest or some other concert that the area is known for.

We used the beach bag at the pool and invited friends to come over and play some games with munchkin.

They took advantage of a number of board games we found in the living room after a day out at the pool. It’s really so nice to be able to stay in and enjoy the property in between excursions. I didn’t feel the need to go out and get breakfast or spend any more money as the property was nice enough for me to stay in and relax.

This is a must for me as a solo mom traveler as keeping the kid entertained can rack up a pretty hefty bill if we always need to go out in search of fun.

A View of the Bay

My first morning in, I really enjoyed the fact that the place was equipped with coffee and tea. I was able to make a cuppa, sit out on the patio and enjoy the view with my morning joe.

We hadn’t gone to the store yet to grab breakfast items and snacks and I didn’t have to immediately rush out to do that or buy breakfast somewhere.

The patio has a lovely view of the bay and it was just perfect for a mindful meditative morning.
